How to Check If Your Drain is Clogged & How to Fix It

A clogged drain can mean a number of different things, from a simple build-up of hair and other debris to a more serious blockage caused by larger objects. In either case, fixing the drain is often as easy as using a plunger and some elbow grease. You can also search online to hire a plumber for clogged drain cleaning services.

Here's what you need to know about checking for and fixing a clogged drain:

1. If you see water pooling or flowing slowly from your sink or bathtub, it's likely your drainage system is blocked. Check the area around the sink or tub for obstructions (like pieces of paper towel, dishwashing detergent cans, etc.), and try to clear them away with a plunger. If that doesn't work, try using a hose to wash down the bathroom floor around the sink or tub.

2. If the problem persists after clearing away obstructions and using the plunger, it may be time to call a professional. A blocked drain can often be fixed with a pipe cleaner inserted into the end of the plunger tube and pushed through the obstruction until it reaches the other end. Use gentle pressure to push and pull until the obstruction is dislodged.

3. For smaller drains that can be cleared by hand, pour a pot of hot water over the drain followed by cold water (to reverse the flow). Push down on any objects in front of or blocking the drain while moving backward toward your faucet until they fall out – this should unclog.
